Character
Name: Haru Glory
Fandom: Rave Master
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Time Period: The night before heading off to fight Lucia.
Wing Color: Dark purple
History: It's a history!
Personality: In a lot of ways, Haru's your typical shounen protagonist. He's a small-town guy who came from humble beginnings, only to realize a greater destiny awaited him. In this case, it was becoming the new Rave Master, succeeding Shiba Roses, and going on a journey to find the Rave Stones. Though unsure at first because he didn't want to leave his sister behind, he soon embraced this destiny, taking up Shiba's sword and embarking on a destiny to collect the Rave Stones and stop Demon Card.
He's the sort of guy made to be a hero, really. He's optimistic, always carrying high spirits and trying to get those around him to do the same. He carries the belief that everyone has the right to be happy. If there's something he can do to improve everyone's spirits (such as, say, restoring the sunshine to a town plagued by rain for years?), then he'll do anything in his power to see that through. And believe me, he refuses to accept that there isn't something he can do to help. He's driven by an indomitable will and desire to accomplish whatever he deems his goal at the time is, whether that's finding a Rave Stone, protecting Elie, stopping Demon Card, or just seeing a smile on someone's face.
Haru's father, Gale, perhaps put it best. "I bet people gravitate naturally to you... Like a star shining bright in the night sky." Indeed, for many people, Haru becomes a shining beacon of hope, literally carrying the world's future on his shoulders. Over the course of his journey, things become more and more difficult for him, with more and more at stake. But as he continues to fight on, he gains the trust and respect of many, gaining numerous allies who stand alongside him in his trials--a number of which were even former enemies of his! Literally more than half a dozen of his enemies eventually become friends of his, supporting him in his battles and even joining him.
Of course, he's hardly perfect. Haru's so-called "indomitable will" is really just him being stubborn and refusing to say die. He'll push himself to his limits and beyond and do impossible things just because of his stubbornness. He stands time and time again because he refuses to give in no matter what, even to the point that he could very well die. But he makes dying wait until he's damn good and finished with whatever he's trying to accomplish. And then after he gets pushed to near death he ends up just getting better. He and his friends have a tendency to do that, honestly.
Strengths:
Physical: In terms of physical prowess, Haru's noted to be at the pinacle of human potential. Even without the power of Rave, he's noted to be fast and strong, one of the top fighters on Garage Island. Cattleya's ex-boyfriend Branch fears Haru because of the pounding he delivered to him, despite the boy being a good few years younger than him. Even in an early chapter, Haru's strength is shown, being able to go toe-to-toe unarmed against Feber, a soldier of Demon Card, and even lands a powerful blow against him.
Haru's real strength, of course, comes from Rave. The Rave is a set of five stones with various properties that grant him strength. The Main Rave is what allows him to use the Ten Powers sword, and enhances all of his physical capabilities to superhuman levels. It also allows him to create explosions on impact by holding the Rave in his hand. This ability was mostly seen early on, which he'd used to punch his enemies in the face with explosions.
The Rave of Combat is said to have further enhanced Haru's abilities, but the main ability it grants is the ability to project force fields. However, these are only for a limited time and only Plue seems to use them.
Finally, Haru possesses the Ten Powers, also commonly called the Decaforce Sword or Ten Commandments. It's a sword containing ten different forms, all accessed by the power of Rave, and each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
- Eisenmeteor: Large, heavy iron sword, incapable of being blocked by magic due to its non-magical state.
- Explosion: Capable of creating powerful explosions either on contact or at distance. The most commonly used sword.
- Silfarion: An incredibly light sword that grants him unparalleled speed and the ability to launch blades of air, as well as attack incredibly quickly.
- Rune Save: A sword that can "cut that which can not be cut", it can cut things that don't have a tangible form, thereby sealing them, such as fire, water, smoke, magic, or even Haru's own mind.
- Blue Crimson: A twin-bladed form that commands the power of fire and ice, able to use those elements either up close or at a distance. Also useful for fending off multiple enemies at once.
- Mel Force: The sword of air, capable of generating incredible gusts of air to blow away and paralyze enemies.
- Gravity Core: An incredibly powerful, destructive sword capable of cutting through even the hardest of things with ease.
- Million Suns: A sword composed entirely of light, capable of blinding opponents and dispelling darkness.
- Sacrifar: A frightening blade of bloodlust that grants the user incredible power and fighting ability. Haru's able to defeat (and nearly kill) Lucia using this sword.
- Ravelt: the final (and now default) form of the Ten Powers. Incredibly strong and has the ability to dispel powerful curses and spells.
Mental: Haru is ridiculously determined. Once he's set his mind to something, it's nigh impossible to make him him change his mind. He won't stop what he's doing until he's accomplished whatever he's set off to do. Time and time again he does it. Against Shuda, King, Doryu, Hardner, and even Lucia, no matter how many times he's struck down, he manages to find the strength to stand up and continue fighting, refusing to give in until he's stopped the enemy.
Thanks to the Rave of Knowledge, Haru, first off, has been granted knowledge of all the abilities of the Ten Powers. It's not an innate knowledge that he's naturally aware of, but knowledge that comes to him when he needs it. Until key moments arrive, he's never seen pulling out a new form or a special combination of the Ten Powers to solve a dilemma. But when those key moments happen, he's able to call forth that knowledge and use it. Moments like those allow him to do things like pull out Blue Crimson for the first time to defeat Let, or combine Mel Force and Rune Save to create a wind tunnel.
Emotional:One of the first things you'll ever learn about Haru is that he's an honest guy. He doesn't conceal his feelings, and there are no secrets when it comes to him. He lets you know exactly what he's feeling, and doesn't lie, not even in an attempt to make someone feel bad because the truth might hurt them.
The second thing you realize is that he's upbeat. Carrying an eternally burning, unyielding optimism, his happiness and high spirits are infectious. In many of the dire circumstances he finds himself in, the typical person might give up and have their hope extinguished. But not Haru. No matter how hopeless things might seem, he has the strength to stand and smile, believing that there's hope. That there's a way things can be set right. He believes there's a happy ending to any scenario, and he's determined to find that way. When Sieg was determined to kill Elie to save the world, Haru refused to accept that, believing there was a way to save both Elie and the world, and he found that way.
Weaknesses:
Physical: Haru's biggest weakness is that he doesn't understand his limits. Or maybe he does and quite simply does care. His stubbornness and refusal to give up causes him to push his body far past its physical limits. He could have a broken arm and be bleeding all over, but he'll still be trying to fight. One of the biggest examples of this when he's thoroughly trounced by Doryu, beaten to an inch of his life, and nearly killed, only saved because of a deus ex machina from Ruby and Dalmatian. Even though he was far from healed, he went back to try and fight Doryu, even though his wounds from the Twilight Sword would surely kill him. If he didn't have friends to cover his back and keep him going, he'd probably have died a long time ago.
Great as though the Ten Powers may sound, each form bares its own disadvantages.
- Eisenmeteor: No real special properties. It's pretty much just a large sword that's outclassed by the other forms.
- Explosion: Lacks a proper cutting edge. The impact of the explosions can also be dangerous to Haru, with successive attacks hurting or even possibly kill him.
- Silfarion: Relatively weak as a melee weapon, and easily beaten by foes who have good prediction ability, such as Racas or Doryu
- Rune Save: Incapable of cutting actual physical things or inflicting wounds.
- Blue Crimson: Haru is predominantly right-handed and skilled with two-handed swords, making use of this dual blade weapon difficult.
- Mel Force: Lacks any real offensive power beyond its crippling gusts of air.
- Gravity Core: So incredibly heavy that Haru literally can't swing it at times due to its weight.
- Million Suns: Is a light-affinity blade and so would likely be defeated by darkness just as easily as it can defeat darkness.
- Sacrifar: The destructive power of this sword comes at a cost, as it seals all emotions that aren't anger or aggression and attempts to take control of its user's mind and body.
- Ravelt: Unknown, as the full capabilities of the sword are never truly shown.
Finally, although it's minor, Haru's ability to dance is... ahem, laughable. You ever seen that one episode of Seinfeld where Elaine does a dance that's laughably bad? It's kind of like that. Except worse. seriously.
Mental: Haru, despite all his talent as a fighter is not too bright. A lot of more difficult concepts sail over his head. God forbid he find himself caught in a trap. He has sharp instincts as a fighter, but those instincts don't carry over to other situations. That lever in these caverns? Totally can't be a trap! That creepy dark-colored water? It's obviously a good idea to jump in! Needless to say, it's a good thing his friends are a lot smarter than him so they can bail him out of whatever stupid predicament he managed to get himself into.
Haru's incredibly naive. He always tries to see the good in people and in a situation, always believing that good will triumph and that you can do whatever you want as long as you have a strong enough heart. ...And while that's absolutely true in the Rave Master world, where enemies are moved by the strength of heart to become allies, in a real world scenario, it'd never cut it. His desire to always see the good in things is as much of a weakness as it is a strength.
He's also very single-minded. It's a trait that he inherited from his father; once he sets his mind on something, there's absolutely no deterring him from it. While being dedicated is certainly admirable, he takes it too far and is pretty much incapable of seeing anything that isn't something he's set his mind to. He butts his way into other people's business because he's absolutely determined to help them, even when it's none of his concern and they tell him to not get involved.
Emotional: Haru is very, very, very hotheaded. Prone to anger, emotional outbursts, and lots of shouting, Haru is very easy to get riled up. Just say something dissing one of his friends, or just do something even remotely evil, and you'll see him get really angry, really quickly. And you won't like him him when he's angry... Unless you like seeing an expression that looks like he's literally going to tear off your skin.
On that note, he's a man ruled by his emotions. So many times over the course of the series is Haru driven to extreme emotions. Righteous fury over one of his comrades being dealt a terrible blow. Extreme joy due to some sort of accomplishment or achievement. Soul-crushing sadness upon discovering some horrible truth about one of his enemies or one of his friends. His emotions tend to fuel his actions and cloud his judgment. He's a bleeding heart. He's all too quick to sympathize with one of his enemies just because he's learned something about what makes them who they are, and it works against him more often than not.
Finally, he has a tendency to try and do things on his own. It's not that he doesn't believe in the power of his friends, or that he thinks he's so much more capable than they are. It all ultimately comes down to the fact that all the trials they've faced are because he's the Rave Master, and dealing with them is his responsibility, and he doesn't want to burden them with his problems. Even by the end of the series, he still never quite realizes that they're always going to be there to help him, through thick or thin.

First Person: GIMME A Q&A CAUSE I CAN. FIGHT ME.
Third Person: "Snap! Why couldn't you just leave it alone, Plue?!", came the cry of a young man, running for his life from an enraged attacker. He had a small, white creature tucked under his arm, which was clutching a fur-covered lollipop. Sure, the boy had his sword on him, and most likely, he could defend himself and take down his opponent easily. But he couldn't bring himself to do it. It just wasn't right. Now as for how this scene came about, well...
Let's turn the clock back a bit to see what transpired, shall we?
It was a day like any other. Haru had been strolling through the forest, taking Plue for a walk. Like any creature, the strange drill-nosed snowman-like dog-thing had to get exercise and do its business. It shouldn't prove to be terribly difficult. It shouldn't. But Haru had made one fatal error. For a brief moment, he took his eyes off of Plue, distracted by the sound of a bird escaping from the treetops.
When he looked back, he discovered Plue had wandered further into the forest, now seemingly playing on top of a large brown rock. ...Only that once Haru wandered closer, it wasn't that at all. It was Plue trying to pry its lollipop out of the fur of a sleeping brown bear!
"Plue! Come on, just let it go! I'll get you some more candy back in the village!", he whispered harshly to his companion, but Plue would have none of that, crying out a "Puuuuu~uun..." and attempting even harder to remove the sucker. Haru knew he had to take action. Grabbing tight onto the white critter, he yanked hard on its small body. But as hard as he pulled, Plue's grip on that lollipop was even stronger, refusing to yield.
"Nnngh... Come... on... Let... Nnngh... Go, Pluuue...!" "Puuuuuuu~uuuun!"
This exchange was followed by the sound of somethung tearing, and a loud roar. The bear was sporting a new bald patch, which served only to make the behemoth seem even more menacing than usual, bearing down upon Haru and his troublemaking friend. Rather than fight the bear, Haru chose to flee for his life.
After all, it wasn't the bear's fault.
